A letter to my future self<3

Dear Nancy,

Greetings from the past! Currently, we are doing well. It’s the summer of 2024 and we are 14 years old. We will be going into the 9th grade at the private school, Bennett Day. I hoped everything worked out for us, especially with such a great shift from elementary to high school. We love pasta, Bryson Tiller, reading, and the color brown.

First and foremost, I want to tell you that I’m proud of you. I always think of you and how you’re doing. You are smart, outgoing, and creative. No matter how you’re doing in life, you have a purpose. Never give up and stay true to yourself.

As we have heard, Bennett is a big change. They are project-based learning with a different grading system. I hope we made genuine friends at Bennett—friends who care about our wellbeing. We want friends who care about school and their future as much as we do. In the journey of making friends, I hoped we would stay true to ourselves. Trying to be someone who is not is draining and hard to keep up with. I expect that we will make friends who love us for who we are. I also want us to know about quality over quantity. It’s better to have 2 real friends than a big friend group full of fake people. Tons of drama comes with tons of friends. I also hoped that we would try out for the volleyball and cross-country teams. Being in a team is one of the best ways to make new friends. I’m confident the teams were fun since we had never been on before. While making friends and doing extracurriculars, I hoped we stayed focused and on top of our studies. I expect that you are organized and have good time management. High school is a big shift and it’s more serious. We asked for help when we needed it. I expected that we would ask for help more and knew there was a time and place for everything.

I hope you’re a little more independent. Our siblings are in college and we will be the only child at home. I hope we can solve our problems without having to run to someone. However, I want you to know that it’s okay to ask for help from time to time. We don’t always have to depend on ourselves. I expect that we are helping Mom and Dad around the house. There is no other sibling for them to call on. Remember to do things with love and put all your effort into it.

Most importantly, I pray you are rooted in Christ. I know our journey hasn’t been easy but I hope you stay determined no matter what. Read your Bible and be excited about Christ. Be sure to pray and try your best to resist temptations. I hope you take our advice well. Remember to be grateful and stay authentic. Never forget who you are and where you come from. Stay blessed<3

Warm regards
