Happy Birthday Dulce!

Tribute to My Sister

I’d like to take just a few moments to speak about someone very important to me, my sister, Dulce. Now, I know many of you have known her for the past 25 years, but I’m pretty sure you don’t know her the way I do. I’ve seen every side of her: funny, awkward, determined, and caring. I’ve been there through it all. But more importantly, she’s been there for me every single step of the way. From the moment I was born, Dulce has been a constant presence in my life. She’s been more than a sister, she’s been a role model, a protector, and sometimes even a second mom.

There are so many moments that come to mind when I think about how much she’s done for me. Like the time I fell off my bike for the first time. I was on the ground – scared, scraped up, and crying. She didn’t hesitate; she picked me up, carried me all the way home, cleaned me up, and made sure I felt safe again. That’s who she is, someone who shows up when it matters most. Or the time when I was going through something really difficult, when even getting out of bed felt impossible. She was there. No questions, no judgment, just support, love, and quiet encouragement. Dulce has always known how to be exactly what I need, even when I couldn’t find the words to ask for it.

I remember her as a skinny high school girl, walking in the door after a long day, clearly exhausted and drained. And yet, even when all she wanted was to rest, she still helped me with my homework especially during those moments when I thought 5 + 5 was the most complicated math problem on Earth. Sure, maybe Mom made her do it, but she never let it feel like an obligation. She always showed up with patience and kindness, even when she was tired and overwhelmed. Watching her grow into the woman she is today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. She is strong, smart, compassionate, and full of quiet determination. She inspires me to be better, to be kinder, and to keep going even when life gets hard.

So today, on your birthday, Dulce, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being my sister, my guide, my cheerleader, and my friend. You’ve made such a difference in my life, and I hope you know how deeply loved and appreciated you are not just today, but every day. I hope this birthday brings you joy, laughter, and the kind of happiness you bring to others so effortlessly. Happy birthday, Dulce. You deserve the absolute best.
