Become A Blink

BLACKPINK, the world’s biggest girl group. Don’t know them? I got you. By the end of this article, you will consider becoming a blink. You might have not understood what I just said but you will later on.

BLACKPINK is a South Korean girl group music artist. Making up BLACKPINK are four members named Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa that come from different backgrounds. They were formed under the agency of YG Entertainment. They debuted with the songs “Whistle” and “Boombayah” on August 8, 2016. Their fandom name is called “blinks”. BLACKPINK has broken many records including becoming the most subscribed female artist on Youtube and even breaking the world’s most viewed music video in 24 hours with 86.3 million views in June 2020. They were also the first-ever K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella, a huge music and arts festival in California.

BLACKPINK wasn’t always BLACKPINK. Before, they were just four unique girls who auditioned for an agency company to hope they could debut in the music industry one day. Everyone that gets accepted to the company is called a trainee and has to be trained in vocal, dance, language, and more. Jisoo, the oldest of the group, was born in Sanbon-dong, Gunpo-si, South Korea. She can speak Korean, Japanese, and basic Chinese. Jichu, her nickname, trained in the company for five years. She is the mom of the group. Whenever you see her you will fall in love with her just by looking at her visual face. I love her because she always puts her other members first and comforts them when they are not feeling well. Jisoo is also an actress and will be starring in a series called “Snowdrop”. Jennie, a human Chanel, was born in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, South Korea. She is called human Chanel because that’s her favorite brand which she happens to be an ambassador of. Jennie speaks Korean, Japanese, and English. She trained the most out of the group for five years and eleven months. She was the first member to have their solo song back in November 2018. Human Chanel might be the most intimidating but she is actually the softest. When she speaks in her baby voice she is so cute. She is the second mom in the group and looks out for her members. My favorite thing about her is her charisma when she is performing. Rosé, the chipmunk, was born in Auckland, New Zealand. She can speak Korean, Japanese, English. She is called chipmunk because of how cute her cheeks are, especially when she is eating. Rosé trained the least amount of time for four years and two months. She had to move to Korea without her parents when she was only 16 years old. She is so in love with food that when the other members don’t want her to talk they give her food to be quiet. Rosé has vocals as an angel and it’s amazing to hear them live especially considering that she has an Aussie accent. Earlier in March 2021, she debuted with her first single “On the Ground”. Lisa, the youngest, was born in Buri Ram, Thailand. She can speak the most languages out of the group that includes Korean, Thai, Japanese, English, and basic Chinese. She trained for five years and three months. Lisa is known as the dancing machine because she can learn any dance quickly. When you see Lisa dance all you want to do is dance with her. She has this swag that makes you fall in love with her when performing. She is a judge/mentor on an elimination reality show called “Youth with You”. I like when she helps her members practice their dances. I loved learning where they came from because they all came from different places with different cultures to become BLACKPINK.

Have you ever gotten that feeling that one movie had the best title or that album just couldn’t have a better photo cover? BLACKPINK is a perfect example, I can’t imagine better candidates that could have made the group what it is. I first fell in love with them after listening to their hit song “Kill this love” which was released in April 2019. I just knew from the beat of the beginning of the song that I wanted to hear more of them. I listened to song after song. I came home every day after school wanting to hear them and learn all their dances. Their songs help me to relax when I am stressed and get me hyped up when I want to dance. I was and still am impressed that they write lyrics in both English and Korean and sometimes Japanese. When I sing their songs I forget that I am singing in Korean, a language I don’t know how to speak but makes me want to learn because of them. Not only are their songs amazing, but BLACKPINK working together to create something beautiful for their fans is just so heart-warming.

I believe that if anyone listens to their music they will find at least one song that they will like. They are an incredible artist that loves their fans. If you want to learn more about them, watch their documentary on Netflix called “BLACKPINK: Light up the Sky”. I hope you are now encouraged to check their music out because if you didn’t you would be missing out on one of the biggest artists in the world.
