Shooting a Basketball is the most important part about basketball. It can really affect your game both positively and negatively. If you learn this skill you will see lots of improvement and points in games. This will need a lot of hard work and dedication. You might ask how do I start well, that’s what I’m here for.
A good shot needs a lot of leg work. It might seem like it’s all in the arms but the legs are really important. First start by spreading your feet about the same size as your shoulder and put your dominant foot slightly ahead of the other while still staying in that stance. Then put most of your weight on the balls of your feet. This gives you a good base.
Next you’re gonna need hand placement on the ball. Your dominant hand should go directly under the ball. Your fingers shouldn’t be touching each other. There should be some space in between each finger. The hand you’re not shooting with should be on the side of the ball supporting it with space in between fingers as well.
Now your starting to load up your shot. What you need to do is find your shot pocket. Basically you put the ball usually to your dominant side near your hip. Now go up from the shot pocket in a smooth motion. Remember to use your legs to get some power in your shot. While your legs are stretching, start to let the ball go up at the same time. Start to release the ball a little bit above your head. The way you release the ball is one of the key reasons why your shot will work or not. To have a good release you have to snap your wrist when your elbow fully bends. This will make the ball spin and you will have a lot more accuracy. The ball will also bounce softly of the rim causing it to roll in. If you were to not do so the ball will bounce very hard of the rim and backboard causing it to go flying out of control.
Following through on your shot helps out a ton. After releasing the ball make sure to keep your shooting hand in the air until the ball hits your target. This helps your form so much. It helps your formation be way more smooth and lets the ball spin in the air.
Now watch the ball spin perfectly in the hoop. If you did it correctly not everyone is going to get it they’re first try. It’s hard to perfect but with lots of practice it will improve and soon you’re going to be a master at shooting. You might not see improvement the first week but after months you’re going to be making everything. Trust the process and keep going.
In conclusion It’s very hard to master shooting a basketball but all you need to work on is your form, your follow through and hand placement. But by adding everything together you will become the star of your team. Shooting a Basketball is the most important part about basketball. It can really affect your game both positively and negatively. If you learn this skill you will see lots of improvement and points in games. This will need a lot of hard work and dedication!
