Dear Charlie,

To you five years ago

Hey, you don’t know me and you won’t ever find out. But here is the thing, you have to play soccer buddy! Trust me it is so much fun! I know you, and I know you’re a little lazy. Please put in the work because high school may seem far away but trust me it will come quickly.

So start now and get better grades! However I know what you’re thinking and yes it is a bad idea. Just keep it there, I know how you feel, better than anyone else. It’s not really worth it. You are stubborn and like to do things your way but listen you have to start managing your anger buddy, it’s just a little mean whenever you get angry at someone for any reason you are doing no better than them. You are giving them what they want when you lash out. I know you won’t like this when you read it but listen just be chill. I know it’s easier said than done but it will do good for you in the long run.

Let me give you some knowledge on soccer so you can become better at it. Practice the ball roll. Trust me it will get better. And put yourself in more stressful situations in soccer so it can improve your judgment on the pitch. Lastly please, please, please! Train your instincts in soccer it will make you deadly!

I’ll give you a little story that you will understand later. Once upon a time there was a boy. This boy was not born in a good neighborhood nor was he born with much wealth. But there was one thing this boy loved, and it was soccer. He loved soccer with a passion. So he wanted to play it! But he needed money in order to afford an academy. He worked so hard some days he would not sleep because he was just working. He literally sweeped the streets! One day the boy looked at the money he made and was happy since he was now able to go to the academy! He worked hard there too and soon got a contract to his first team! He continued to work hard and eventually even got a contract to his dream team! He became one of the best soccer players in the world but he only got there because he worked for it. His need, his hunger, was bigger than anyone else’s.

Now you may not be that boy, you certainly are not very motivated. But he achieved what he wanted with nothing! You were born with a mother and a loving grandmother. They will always be there for you.

So always be determined, be more determined than anyone else, because you were born with purpose. What that purpose is you’re going to have to find out. But remember you’re not alone, you never were.

I suppose this is it. I’ve told you all I’ve wanted to tell you at least what you need to know. The rest? Life will teach you because you don’t need me but listen, always listen. You may not hear it the first time, but try to listen. The sound of life is more beautiful than you think!
