My grandfather was a true light in our lives, known for his bright smile and positive personality that uplifted everyone around him. He had a way of making us laugh and feel happy, no matter the situation. Sadly, he was taken from us far too soon in a tragic event, the Highland Park mass shooting during the 4th of July parade in 2022. Despite this heartbreaking loss, I want people to know and remember him as my family and I do. He was a man filled with joy, wisdom, and unwavering dedication. His presence made a lasting impact on our lives, and his big heart will continue to inspire us every day to be kind and loving like him.
My grandfather played a significant role in my life, serving as a father figure to me. His presence had a big impact not only on me but also on my entire family. One cherished memory with him is when he would pick my sister and me up from school. He would sing to us in the car, always asking, “Les gustan cómo canto?” This never failed to make us laugh. Regardless of the weather, sunny, raining, or snowing, he would always be there, waiting outside to pick us up from school, showing his enduring love and dedication. His wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support shaped me into the person I am today. His influence will continue to be within our family for generations to come. We all miss his big bright smile every day, his encouragement to smile and laugh, his heartfelt advice about school and our futures, and his reminder to never give up or let anyone discourage us from pursuing our dreams.
He was a very reliable man and always spoke about his strong work ethic. He never missed a day of work, even when very sick or after a fall that left him barely able to walk. His commitment was an inspiration to us all. My grandfather was always there for us when we struggled in school, offering his best advice and encouraging us to try our hardest, reassuring us that the outcome would be worth it if we did our best. My grandfather taught me so much. He taught me how to become a better student and what can help me achieve my goals for the future. He would always say that as long as I focused on school and got good grades, I could get anywhere I wanted to be.
My grandfather often gave his friends a ride to work, leaving the house early to ensure they arrived on time. This simple yet generous act shows his big heart and willingness to help others. He never hesitated to go out of his way to support his friends, making sure they could rely on him. His kindness and generosity earned him many friends in the community, who deeply appreciated his constant support. This was especially clear at his funeral, where a large number of his friends gathered to say goodbye and honor the man who had touched their lives in such a positive way. His legacy of caring and helping others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
