Dear Mama

My mom is my everything. She is my best friend and my biggest supporter. She has always been there for me and never once gave up on me. She has left big opportunities for me and made many  big scary sacrifices for me. The things she has done for me show how much she really does love me, how much she really cares for me, and how determined she is to be my mother.

My mom’s childhood was dreadful. She is the second youngest child out of her six siblings. She had to wake up early in the mornings to clean the house before school, get herself ready for school, as well as her younger sister. Getting home from school she needed to have dinner ready by the time her father got home. Growing up she had to help her mother a lot with the house while growing up. Growing up my grandparents had my mom very disciplined. She never had the time to relax on the weekend or anything. Even on summer breaks, she got put to work with her uncles at a store that they owned. Around the age of 14 her father sadly passed away. With her father sadly passing away, she decided to not have her quinceanera. Which made her lose that big opportunity to have that traditional party. My grandma was never there for her until now. My grandma was always working in order to have enough to buy food for the table and to pay the bills. With her dad not being alive to help her mom for necessary things, she never had much growing up.

A couple of years passed on the timeline, then I came along. My mother has been through so much with me. She has never once given up on me. Especially when I was put in foster care at 4 months old. She kept on fighting for me until I was back at home with her. Growing up, she told me more about this story. I learned that it was hard for her to regain custody of me. Her telling me this story tells me so much about my mother or telling this story to people shows how strong of a person my mother is. She never once gave up, kept fighting, and was determined to get me back at home with her.

Many big job opportunities have come to my mom. She’s always declining them because she always thinks about her children. She is the person to always put people before her and never think about herself. She always has done favors for other people, but people don’t seem to do them back. They tend to say “no” to the smallest favors she asks. She can go above and beyond for people. She herself is always there for other people when they need a shoulder to cry on, but they are never there for her.

This woman has been through thick and thin. No one can even understand because they don’t know what happens behind closed doors. People tend to see what she posts on social media and think that she is a very provident person. They truly don’t know what she goes through behind the screen, in her mind, and at home. Although my mother is not happy with the decisions she made along with her telling me to make the right decisions. I have always told her things happen for a reason.

This woman that I call my mother is the biggest reason why I have come so far. My mom is the reason why I don’t give up. She reminds me every morning that I am loved by her. The times that I want to give up she tells me that if I really want the things I need to work for them and  they won’t come themselves.

I want to thank my mom for everything she has done for me. The things that I will achieve are for her and me. When I continue to get older and all the money I gain I will save for her. For the purpose of her I will buy her dream house that she has always been wanting, and for her to retire and be work free. There are no words to tell her how much I really do love her and thank her for everything she has done for me. Ma, gracias por todo.
