I know most people never want to step outside their comfort zone because they are afraid of being judged. Others just don’t like the hard work that comes with doing something new. But I’m here today to tell you my experience with stepping outside my comfort zone and trying something new.
It all started when I was twelve. I decided to do a praise dance at my church. One of the teachers worked at a dance studio and asked me to come. I was pretty nervous at the time because you usually start dancing at a really young age like two to five years old. I also used to watch dance moms, and I knew I didn’t know how to do any of the things they were doing — and they were like eight years old. I loved dance though and really wanted to do dance, so that following dance season, I was enrolled in Fieldcrest School of Performing Arts.
At the beginning, I was really confused because I didn’t understand a lot of the stuff and I wasn’t as good as other people. I was also the oldest person in my ballet class and there were just little kids in there, but I didn’t give up and I kept trying. As the week went by I didn’t give up and I kept trying in class even though I was coming back home sore every Saturday. I became better and better at my craft. Eventually, I had to leave and go to more advanced studios for myself.
Dance has become a big part of myself and my entire life. I don’t know what I would act like or do if I never did dance. This is why you don’t need to be afraid to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new! It might feel weird at first but just keep pushing through. In the end, you will be proud of what you accomplished and how you achieved your goal. You will be able to look back at your past self and be happy that you took that leap of faith and tried. Therefore, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. It can be in extracurricular activities or even hobbies.
If you read this blog and have been thinking about doing something just do it! Don’t talk yourself out of it. Go to your parents or whoever your guardian is, talk to them about it and get yourself involved! I now want to be a professional dancer in the future, and I am excelling in all of my dance classes. This year I auditioned for a professional dance company for a summer intensive and got in. My teachers have even said that I have that potential. Something I want to leave you with is this: All things are possible through him who believes. Always remember that and you can do anything!
