Hooked on Crocheting

Have you ever tried crocheting? Well I have and today I will tell you my experience with crocheting. It all started when my aunt gave me 4 crochet sets, about 8 skeins of yarn, and a crochet book that gives me patterns. All of this was around a year ago. I tried countless times to figure out how to crochet but it never, I’m saying never, worked out. I tried the online tutorials, but all the things they said just confused me even more. I was struggling until the new year of my Chinese school. For the after school programs, one of the options was crocheting so my mom signed me up. And that’s when everything changed.

How everything changed was when I walked into the crochet classroom and my heart was beating so fast! There were butterflies in my stomach. Until I saw one of my friends walk into the classroom too! We talked for a while and after we talked I felt so much better! When the teacher came in she taught us some vocabulary, how to hold the yarn and hook, and taught us how to crochet. The very first thing that she taught us how to do was chain. She told us to hold the yarn and hook lightly, bring your hook to the right, and then follow through. Once I practiced I really got it. The chains didn’t look the greatest but I did it! I really liked the teacher I had because she was really patient and she would explain it multiple times in different ways. When the class was over I was sad, but I knew I accomplished something that day.

If you want to learn how to crochet then you will need to have a lot of patience. I think that because some people in my crochet class didn’t have patience and it was a struggle for them to learn. If you do have patience then I recommend it because you will have a lot of fun and learn a lot. Personally I think I do have patience. I think that I do have patience because I couldn’t get crocheting but with practice and effort I can crochet now. I do really think that patience is a valuable trait and not just for crocheting because it can help you relax and stay focused. It is also good for your health because if you keep on yelling and screaming it probably won’t be good for your health. If you don’t think you can do it then trust me on this, at the beginning you won’t be able to do 10 chains but at the end you can and it will look flawless all you need it patience! At the beginning I was struggling but my most recent project was making a bear inside of a cupcake. If I can do it so can you!
