We are all here today to celebrate my mother’s accomplishments and my aunt’s legacy. I’m sorry that my aunt is not here to witness this, but if she were, a time would have most definitely been had. We are all gathered here today to recognize the people that have never ceased to believe in me. One person is my mother, a rose in a bush of thorns that will always do the best she can. A kind spirited person who makes sure to let me know I am loved. The other is my aunt, a tough yet loving person. Our bond will never be broken. She’s an angel that was called home too early and she will never be forgotten.
The unconditional love from my mother and aunt has sculpted my personality, the bitterness. Both have guided me towards a path I will never turn back from. I have been awarded the Daniel Murphy, HFS, Link Unlimited, and Gie scholarships, came in 8th place in a city Black History essay competition that included high schoolers at the age of 12, 3rd in my graduating class at Moving Everest Charter School, High Jump class of 2025 graduate, and table host at the By The Hand spring benefit all because of the two people I call Mama and TeeTee (another name for auntie). Now I want you to imagine that you are outside walking with the person you love the most, but then you feel something brushing past you as if the wind is walking with you and someone is telling you that they are always there. Even when you can’t see them, you feel them guiding you along your journey day & night. I think about her everyday.
My Mother, auntie & I were an unbreakable trio. we would have the most fun regardless of what we were doing or talking about. My mother and my auntie had a playful sisterhood. I remember when my aunt was sick & the doctors said that there was nothing that could be done for her. I was mad for so many reasons. Then her funeral was scheduled on my birthday , which was awkward to say the least. imagine that you are at a funeral and someone tells you happy birthday. Weird, right!?
The kicker is I would have thought I would be sad writing this but really I am just happy I get to talk about it. I’ve been told that you will always need someone by your side and if you think you have enough you can always have more.I recently had a conversation with my mother and she boldly revealed that she had no plans on getting pregnant and was supposed to be the rich auntie, but God had other plans and here I am. Then she said that she doesn’t know what she would do without me. On the other hand, my auntie and I were crazy . We have done a lot of things, gone to events, talked about her problems with her friends and just so much other stuff. We shared laughs for two lifetimes.Thank you for reading my work and I hope to Write for you again.
