My name is Noah Mendez, and I would say I love listening to music more than anything in the world. I listen to music most of the time, and I listen to a plethora of different artists, but one seems to outshine the rest. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my favorite artist in the whole wide world, Malcolm Todd! You may be asking, why is he your favorite, or why should I even care? I will answer all of those questions and more, and hopefully you will find the new artist you never knew you needed.
Now, the question you may be asking: who is Malcolm Todd? Malcolm Todd is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter who makes indie/ bedroom pop music. Some of his most popular songs include “Earrings”, “Chest Pain”, and “Sweet Boy”. Some of his accolades include 38.4 million monthly listeners and his newest album, Do That Again, reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200 in its opening week.
So, with your newly found knowledge (or if you knew this already, congratulations!) I’m going to explain how I started listening to Malcolm Todd.
I first discovered Malcolm Todd in my 7th-grade year in middle school with the song “Chest Pain” off of his album Malcolm Todd(still). I had heard the song from a meme of some dude singing while playing a game while on voice chat, and I was shocked by how much I liked his music, because I heard my friends talk about him and never actually gave him a try. Little did I know I would find my new favorite artist. Malcolm is my favorite artist for many reasons, for example, his relatable lyrics. His song “I Just Got Mad” has some of the most relatable lyrics with lines like, “I just got mad / I’m really bad at not being attached / I’m really cool until I have to talk / Now all of the words I know, I just forgot.” And in my opinion, when I listen to music and the lyrics are relatable, I can enjoy it way more than before.
On top of that, Malcolm’s music has allowed me to connect with more people through a common interest and even connect on a deeper level with my friends. An example of a time that Malcolm Todd has connected me to someone was with my cousin, Javi. Javi is one of my closest cousins on my dad’s side, and he was actually the one who first (technically) introduced me to Malcolm Todd because of the meme. We were playing basketball, and he pulled out his phone and showed me a video, and it had the meme, and I thought the song was good, so I looked for it and found out that it was by Malcolm.
Honestly, I would recommend Malcolm to anyone, but more specifically to those who are in their teens or are young adults, because his music focuses on themes of love and heartbreak, gaining fame through music, and early adulthood. I like how you can tell Malcolm cares about his songs because you feel the emotion in his music. Another reason you should listen to him is because of his variety of music. Malcolm has slow songs, fast songs, or songs that are more instrumental, so you are free to pick and choose to your liking.
In conclusion, you have got to listen to Malcolm Todd. Not only has listening to him connected me with new people, but it has changed my view on indie music artists like him. Malcolm Todd’s music is life-changing, so trust me, you’ve got to do this!
