Cooking Makes You Healthier
Ever felt hungry but didn’t know what to do? Didn’t want to spend money on Uber Eats or Doordash? Then you should learn how to cook! Cooking is an essential skill that most people should learn, though for me it’s something that I can work and improve on. Cooking is a significant skill that helps you since there won’t always be someone to cook for you. So if you haven’t, try it out tonight!
Cooking Makes You Healthier
Cooking can make you healthier. Without all those filler and horrible ingredients in fast foods you can instead cook your own food that can be even tastier but without all the negatives. Fast food meals have lots of sodium, saturated fats, and preservatives, while home cooked meals usually have 30–50% less sodium. Cooking is also budget friendly, when using affordable ingredients like vegetables, rice, beans, and pasta. The USDA says that cooking can cut costs by half compared to ordering.
Shared Meals Make Memories
Also the benefits of shared meals, shared meals are a great way to make new bonds and memories, plus your cooking will be at the center of those memories. A National Institutes of Health study found that shared meals increase feelings of connection and can improve communication, especially with families and friends.
Cooking is a Calming Experience
Cooking is something that can bring you peace too, trying out new creative recipes, making comfort food for yourself, taking constructive criticism and improving is something cooking gives that a lot of other activities doesn’t. Psychology notes that cooking is a good way to reduce stress, improve your mood, and can be a form of therapy because it gives a sense of control and creativity. It’s a nice break from life that you get to enjoy when you sit down and eat what you’ve put your effort in. I personally love cooking steak or pasta. It’s just that there’s something satisfying from making these foods, I also love to eat them so that’s also a reason why.
Cooking can Help You Understand Cultures
Every culture has its own cuisines such as Hispanic, Italian, Spanish, Middle Eastern, and many more. Each one tells you something about the country and people it came from, because food is one of the biggest parts of a culture. Cooking lets you experience that culture and feel like you’re actually there. There are places I’ve never had the chance to go to but with cooking I can at least try a little of their culture which is good enough.
Nothing Like It
There is nothing like cooking where you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor, while also it being an essential life skill that is something I enjoy. People who are good at cooking can even make their own careers by becoming chefs, some of the most popular being Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver. Gordon came from an abusive home where his father would abuse him and the rest of his family. Jamie came from a small restaurant helping out his family but in school he was bullied for being dyslexic and had to attend special classes. If these stories tell you anything it’s that anyone can do it!
