Just Not Now

Hi Joseph,

I know now isn’t the best time in your life. You’re not doing well in class, your organization isn’t the best, and your big brother is still yelling at you about how you keep bringing cups into the room and not taking them back into the kitchen once you’re done drinking out of them. You might feel overwhelmed, but trust me, you’ll be so much better. It will happen so soon, and it will all pass so fast with just a bit of patience. Just not now.

You remember that one time you tried opening the window on your own because you thought you were strong enough? We both know that didn’t go well, because you walked away with a broken finger-tip. You felt embarrassed, you didn’t want to ask Dad if he could help you because you thought you were strong enough, and you wanted to live up to the expectations that he had of you. But there are other ways you can do that, and what you did was okay, because you just didn’t know those other ways. And spoiler alert, you did actually learn those ways. Just not now.

Soon, you’re actually going to be encountered with a very difficult test, specifically, a reading one. We both know how bad you are at that subject. The thing was, you thought you were ready, so you didn’t study. Turns out that you didn’t realize what you were in for, and you got a punishing 43%. I’m not saying this to perturb you, but to let you know that you should always make sure you’re actually ready for anything big coming up. It might be hard to do that, especially with procrastination, but you’ll overcome it, Joseph. Just not now.

You were so confident to do everything, but that confidence turned into a big ego that really made everything fall apart. That guilt after making all those mistakes really caught up to you, but remember, those are just temporary. Love is permanent, so don’t ever forget to love yourself. You are worth so much, and everybody has a meaning in this world. Just because you haven’t figured out your meaning, will never mean you won’t. You will know your meaning soon, and when you do, you won’t specifically notice it. You’ll just notice that your life feels a lot better, and that you really feel like you have something to live for. So trust me, it will happen. Just not now.

You might be wondering why I keep saying “just not now.” It’s because throughout your life, you’re gonna learn something called patience. It’s when you have the ability to wait calmly for something, and you can’t do that most of the time because of distractions and the need to just have fun. You can’t have fun all of the time, but you still will. Patience is a concept that took you a long time to learn, but you learned it anyways, and it paid off. You were able to balance so many things with other things at the same time, like successfully being able to do all of your homework and go out and play with your friends on the same day. I know, it sounds like a dream, and it really is. So just know, life might be hard right now, but everything you do leading up to now paid off so much. Just have patience, because it will happen.

Just not now.
