Dear younger me,
If you were to look at me now you would be so proud. I’m finally gaining confidence in myself, found my group of friends, and got into an amazing high school.
A few things I want you to remember is to be confident in your hair. You don’t have to struggle every morning looking in the mirror trying to change things you know you can’t change or trying out new styles every week just to please other people. Please always remember that your hair is beautiful the way it is. The thickness and the tight coils in our hair define who we are as a person. I also want you to be confident in yourself and stop worrying about what other people are going to think of you.
Remember that you are somebody and you matter. Also don’t be nervous to try new things. Remember what mom says: you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. There’s also a reason why you ask questions. If you never get clarification on something you’re stuck on, then you struggle and you struggle badly. Think of it as digging a hole for yourself. The effect is that when you don’t ask for help on something you don’t understand, you’re digging a deeper hole for yourself. Eventually it will be really hard to get out of it. In reality that means your grades can tank and it can take a while to bring back up.
You are a kind, responsible, and respectful young lady and I want to remember that forever. It’s okay to make mistakes or not know everything. That’s the beauty of learning and becoming a better person. Stop worrying about what you should’ve done in the past and focus on the future. Focus on making your future what you want it to be. Think outside of the box. Plan out how you want life to go for yourself & don’t let other people decide for you or make your decisions if you feel like something is wrong or doesn’t feel right. Leave. Don’t stay because you know what’s best for you. Not other people. That’s what makes you an awesome person.
Looking at everything you’ve accomplished so far, you’re going to make it big. You are going to do so many awesome things in life. Always remember from time to time, when you grow older, to look back at this letter. Look back at the people who helped you. Look back at the teachers who took time out of their lives to help you. Look back at the friends who never judged you and stayed by your side no matter how hard times were. Look back at your supporters, your parents. Look back at the people who had a positive impact on your life. People who never saw less of you. People who saw a very bright, intelligent, strong girl and knew that she could do so much she just needed a boost. I’m very very proud of you and can’t wait to see all you accomplish through high school and college. You are awesome and remember to be great.
