Hello Younger Sherman,
You probably just finished off your seventh grade year. We finished off with great success. We completed the year with a 4.0. We also won student president for eighth grade. We met all of our goals and stayed committed. We also looked into high schools, and had Whitney Young as our first choice. We kept Whitney Young at the top of our list, but we almost missed out on better opportunities and things that are very beneficial to this day. As we stepped into eighth grade, we were informed about the test to get into Whitney Young.
We listened, and knew all of the skills we could use to get a pretty good score on the test. But we thought we had time we didn’t have and procrastinated to study. As time flew by, eighth grade was such a fast year. It was almost a week before we took the test, so we tried to study as much materials as we could in that week. But it wasn’t enough, due to our bad habit of procrastination we fumbled on our opportunity to go to Whitney Young.
We took the test and hoped for the best, something we should never do again because we didn’t get the score we truly knew we could get if we really applied ourselves. But later we took our loss and we got recommended to apply for the DMSF. Our grades and test scores were still good. Despite the scores we received from the selective enrollment test, we applied for DMSF. While also looking into other high schools, we found Fenwick, another school that met our needs and wants. This was another school where we could see ourselves prosper or grow. We got the Daniel Murphy Scholarship and got accepted into Fenwick ! We found another high school that could make us truly happy, and not make us want to regret the biggest decision of our life.
Fenwick is the private catholic school Mr.Woods recommended to us. Also, the school that got introduced to us by the student enrollment manager Mr.Ferguson. I really think that it was Mr.Ferguson who made us really want to look into the school. The way he talked about the differences in the curriculum, and how the lessons are very engaging really made me open my eyes and realize the opportunity in front of me.
With all of this being said, I never want you to overlook opportunities that could be better than we think. I want you to continue to set goals for yourself, and do everything possible to meet them. When you encounter setbacks, be resilient and try again. I want you to stay positive and focus on all of your goals, especially your long term goals. Stay passionate and consistent and don’t become easily influenced. Be the true leader you are, and don’t shy away from any challenge or a problem. You think you can’t handle it, but you will get it done.
